From the word gyro (meaning ring, spiral or circle) and tonic (to tone or invigorate), Gyrotonic methodology is a way of increasing range of motion, coordination, and strength by performing prescribed graceful, circular motions.

Synthesizing the key movement principles from gymnastics, yoga, swimming and ballet, Gyrotonic methodology is an exercise discipline designed to result in total freedom of movement. Employing a unique arrangement of weights, pulleys and wires, the GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM enhances coordination, strength and flexibility by exercising muscle groups interdependently through mobilization and rotation of the joints. Through uninterrupted circular movement of the body parts in sweeping, controlled arcs, Gyrotonic exercises increasingly expand ones range of movement with minimal risk of injury.

The rhythmic movements are synchronized with specific breathing patterns with an emphasis on quality of movement allowing students to progress from gentle to moderate to vigorous cardiovascular aerobic workouts as they gather intensity and speed.

The Gyrotonic Expansion System is not gym equipment. Most conventional exercise machines employ linear and isolated movement patterns, which create uncoordinated strength. The Gyrotonic Expansion System promotes multiple joint articulations, creating coordinated power in the muscles and simultaneously strengthening the ligaments. By moving in connected, natural patterns, the body flows smoothly between contraction and extension. This bridges that important gap between the action and recovery of the motion and (again, unlike conventional exercises) brings balanced support to the skeletal system.

A single exercise session in the Gyrotonic methodology can relieve muscle stress, and leave you feeling invigorated and more aware of your whole body. After a few weeks of training, you will likely feel a pronounced difference in strength, ease, efficiency of movement, and an overall sense of well being.

Appropriate for people of all ages and stages of fitness, all sessions are overseen by certified instructors.
